If Meet the Parents can make it into 1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die, so can these guys.
Around this time of year, a book that every film fan should be asking for for Christmas is updated and released called 1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die (a bit extreme and daunting, I grant you). Every year, as it updates, certain titles are replaced to make way for the new. Now, usually, with these definitive collections, I trust the editor to include films that are indeed relevant; not necessarily liked, but relevant to cinema history.
But, it was one early edition that included the insipid Ben Stiller comedy Meet the Parents. You remember that film? It was pretty big, Ben Stiller was called Gaylord Focker, a name written by a 12-year-old, and gave us a heads up as to what was to expect for Robert De Niro’s career. The point I’m making here is that there have been films that have been much more relevant to cinema history, and should be included in 1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die. Here are my suggestions.
