Two Pints of Lager got all the attention when the likes of Monkey Dust and Snuff Box should have been the top of everyone’s list
Fear not: this is not another paranoid Daily Mail article, exclaiming that the BBC is an evil Bolshevik institution. Rather, this is a consideration of the excellent comedies that were once on the BBC, yet were either victims of poor scheduling or just never quite got the recognition that they deserved.
Four out of the five shows on this list started out on BBC Three, which is significant considering the channel is often criticised – rightly – for its lacklustre output. However, BBC Three has actually aired some excellent alternative comedies over the past decade. Yet not many people know about them, because they were often sidelined in favour of repeats of Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps (despite the outcry from the public, BBC Three was doggedly persistent in showing Two Pints in a prime-time slot on a daily basis. Non-stop. Ad infinitum). Here are five shows that didn’t deserve to be pushed into a graveyard slot.
