Matthew McConaughey’s The Wolf of Wall Street cameo wasn’t the only one to strongly impact on a Scorsese film.
I have a theory when it comes to the Martin Scorsese film paradigm: many of the important, and interesting, characters can be found in supporting cameo roles. The recent The Wolf of Wall Street has such a performance from Matthew McConaughey, who only appears in the film’s opening act. Yet his character’s philosophy influences Jordan Belfort (Leonardo DiCaprio) so profoundly that it leads him down the path of debauchery, overindulgence and greed. Without this character, there would be no movie.
It appears many cameos have had an unprecedented influence over Scorsese’s other films. Here are my top five.
