2. In the Name of the Father (1993)

in the name of the father

A classic in the eyes of many, In the Name of the Father has a 95% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and was nominated for seven Oscars, including Best Actor (Daniel Day-Lewis), Best Supporting Actress (Emma Thompson) and Best Picture. And it’s very easy to see why – the true story of a group of Irish men and woman falsely accused of an IRA terrorist attack and sentenced to more than ten years in prison is horrifying, as Gerry Conlon (Day-Lewis) battles with life imprisonment, the failed judicial system and his relationship with his father (the late Pete Postlethwaite). While a simplification of the truth, it’s still a noteworthy dramatic prison movie about justice.
