Since the 1980s, Megalopolis has been on the mind of Francis Ford Coppola. The plot had all the makings of an exceptional disaster movie: New York is destroyed after being hit by a freak natural catastrophe. The reason for it not being made was 9/11. This reasoning is perhaps a little iffy, however, given that 9/11 was 13 years ago and that numerous disaster films have been released since. On top of that, Megalopolis was pitched as a natural disaster movie, rather than political. It sounds more like Coppola just can’t be bothered.
