What if GTA V was a Commodore 64 game?

Take a look at a low-def Los Santos

Grand Theft Auto was released in 1997 for the PlayStation 1 and PC, but what if the series had started a decade earlier?

Well a YouTube channel has remade the 2011 gameplay trailer for GTA V in the style of a Commodore 64 game. Scenes of hiking up Mount Chiliad, jogging along Vespucci Beach, and robbing jewellery stores are all meticulously recreated with a palette of 16 different colours.

The accompanying 8-bit soundtrack gives it a suitably 80’s buzz, as the narrator’s pensive speech scrolls along the bottom in blocky subtitles.

You can watch the video below, and also be sure to check out low-def versions of Watch Dogs, LA Noire, Assassin’s Creed and Vice City on the YouTube page.
