The Launching People initiative means Idris Elba could be your mentor

0 85

Yes, Luther might be helping you make a film in the near future. We’re not even lying

Oh Idris Elba, you wonderful man. His Wikipedia page lists his multiple professions – actor, producer, singer, rapper, DJ – but he’s so much more than that. Indeed he is now offering up his various talents for Samsung’s Launching People project, in which he will act as a mentor for the successful filmmaking candidate.

Elba has become quite the Hollywood hero since his notable turn as Russell ‘Stringer’ Bell in The Wire, and this side of the pond people have lapped him up in Luther like he’s a saucer of warm milk placed beneath a cat’s nose. Weird. In fact, we’ve almost all but forgotten Pacific Rim. And Thor. And even Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance – a man has to pay his bills after all.

Anyway, for this new initiative, which will also be broadcast on Sky 1, Elba is going to take someone under his gentle but firm wing, and help them create their project. Speaking about what he’s on the look out for Elba has said: “If I represent anything, it’s someone who dreamed big and achieved those dreams. If anyone out there has a similar aspiration, then I want to hear from them.”

And there you have it – Elba’s words of wisdom. Read them and weep.

If you’ve got a great idea and think you have what it takes to impress our talented panel of mentors, then pitch us your project via between now and Thursday 6th March 2014.
