Before the days of assassins and superheroes, the video game industry had more classic and humorous heroes. Franchises followed anthropomorphic bandicoots and raccoons who use master thieving skills to save the world. Yet there was one hero who stood out above the others. A hero with mythical powers and a fantasy driven history that made him a true star. That hero was Spyro the Dragon, and after years and years away from the industry, he’s making a comeback with his original trilogy being brought back as the game Spyro Reignited Trilogy.
The game includes the infamous trilogy that made Spyro a household name in the video game world. Those games include Spyro the Dragon, Spyro 2: Ripto’s Rage, and Spyro: Year of the Dragon. These games had everything: humor, charm, action, and of course dragons. What made Spyro so beloved was his story, as he was the smallest of all the dragons, and yet he managed to use his courage, humor and tenacity to overcome the odds and save all of his dragon brethren, as well as other worlds, in the process.
Spyro did things in his video game trilogy that few games before it had even thought to incorporate. Portal traveling, multiversal villains, and fusing technology and fantasy together were just a few of the initiatives that developers put into this franchise. After the success of the Crash Bandicoot: N’Sane Trilogy game, Spyro the Dragon is sure to follow in the bandicoot’s footsteps and become a household name once more.
While recent news that Spyro Reignited Trilogy would be delayed from it’s original September 21st, 2018 release to now coming out on November 13th, 2018 has kept fans on the edge of their seat in anticipation, recent news from Gamescom 2018 has revealed brand new gameplay footage that is sure to have longtime fans excited. In this new footage we get to see Spyro in the third game of the franchise, utilizing the fan favorite skateboard function to get high scores and advance the story. Seeing this classic footage paired with brand new state of the art visuals makes this game even more exciting than previously thought.
Spyro Reignited Trilogy is the nostalgia series gamers need right now. It’s blend of comedy, action and world building captures the passion and creativity that drove us all to get into gaming to begin with. What could be misconstrued as simplicity is actually a complex form of storytelling that manages to draw the gamer’s attention while delivering high octane action and hilarious dialogue delivery all at once, something few games managed to have before Spyro’s era of gaming. If these trailers are anything to go by, then the delay will be well worth the wait as we eagerly anticipate the upcoming release of Spyro Reignited Trilogy.
